Thank you for stopping by to check on Joann. We hope this page is useful, and we will try to keep it as up-to-date as possible.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

All are invited to a picnic this Saturday, August 1st from 2-4pm at Washington Square park (near Albany Medical Center) to help Joann and Jim celebrate their three miracles: the miracle that Larissa is with them, the miracle that Joann is with them, and the miracle that Jim is still relatively sane. There will be plenty of good food, as anyone familiar with the Ives clan should come to expect. All you need to bring is yourselves and whatever else you would like to have on a sunny summer day in Albany, NY.

Regular visiting hours for Joann are daily 6:30 PM to 7:30, and additionally, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. We dearly appreciate your love, concern, prayers, and efforts to travel to Albany. Joann needs to conserve her energy for herself and Larissa, and we ask that you keep your visits brief. There are many fine restaurants, museums, historic sites, architecture, and other attractions in the capital region, and we suggest that you combine one or more of them with your visit to Joann. For more information, see our Around Albany page. dashdot.gif (419 bytes)

How she is:mother_child.jpg

Joann started the next round of chemotherapy yesterday. After a rough night on Wednesday, her spirits have rallied once again. She is tolerating the chemo better than expected and everyone is pleased and relieved. Her appetite has returned. The doctors next concern are blood clots, so she is up and moving around.

About baby Larissa:lara.jpg

Larissa continues to do very well. She has been on unassisted breathing since 7:00 AM Wednesday morning. She started on formula through the feeding tube -- 5cc every 6 hours. She is tolerating it well and is continuing to gain weight. She practices her sucking, swallowing, and breathing coordination with a pacifier.

We will archive email to Larissa at larissa@iswis.com

What about Jim?father_child1.jpg

Jim said to a psychiatrist acquaintance Tuesday morning, "Some of my family are worried that I'm becoming manic." The psychiatrist said, "You had better be manic in a situation like this, or you'll have a nervous breakdown."

And Blacky?blky2.jpg

Blacky is keeping Rosmarie Shaughnessy on her toes out at the farm on Spillway Road.
