How it started:joann_grin2.jpg (14998 bytes)

Joann has been having problems with shortness of breath and pain in her back and lower right chest.  We had been attributing it to pollen allergy (more severe this year than most) and aches and pains of pregnancy.   She
took an antihistemine for a month, and began using an inhaler. Nothing seemed to allieve the shortness of breath.  She got a referral to a pulmonary specialist in Albany, and we had an appointment Friday , June 19.  A frontal chest x-ray showed the right lung to be almost
completely opaque. A CAT scan on Monday showed a tumor between the pleurus and the lung.   She had a biopsy Tuesday morning at Albany Medical Center.  The pathology report is that the tumor is malignant, and the surgeon tells us it is inoperable because it is large and complex. There
are chemotherapy treatment drugs available that are safe to the baby.
